Two days in LA

Last weekend, we had some friends in town from Seattle. We had 4 people stay at our house, making that a magical number 6. We brewed multiple pots of coffee, drank bottles of wine, cooked lots of pasta and snapped tons of pics! It was fun driving around to different  neighbourhoods and doing touristy stuff.
We went to the Hollywood Forever Cemetery to pay respects to Johnny Ramone, got as close as possible to the Hollywood Sign, went to City Walk (huge waste of money) went shopping on Hollywood Boulevard, Went to brunch, Rodeo Drive, drove up and down Sunset Boulevard, The Cha Cha Lounge for drinks/photo booth pics, Amoeba Records and then to Venice Beach. That was all in 2 days!
Here some pics from our adventures.

What do I do if I can’t sleep? Post photos of my Cat of course!
She is so photogenic, I’m very proud.

One More Thing.

Since moving into our LA apartment, we have had to try very hard to make it feel like home. I have found myself reading interior design blogs, magazines and over the holidays, talking to my mother in-law about it. She is an Interior designer and is amazing. Im inspired and think that this year a “goal” of mine will be to take more interest in my home. Here is a pick I found from one of my new-found blogs, Luxe + Lillies. I want to live in the feeling of this photo.

What makes a house or apartment really feel like home?

New Year

This year, I’m getting organized. Since we moved from Seattle to LA, I have been very unmotivated, uninspired and…….lazy.

I’m very disappointed in myself since I’m normally not like this.

I’m looking forward to meeting new people here in LA, all the adventures Aaron and I will have together, turning 30 (eek!), getting back in shape, and all the other things that happen to you when you move and start a new year.

Cheers to a positive attitude, happy and healthy year.

I will be starting 2011 with a giant cup of coffee!

I just want to take a minuet to wish myself a Happy Birthday! I will be 29 in 7 min. Also, a quick shout out to my parental units for raising me and loving me!

This last year has been one of the best. I celebrated 2 years of marriage, 2 years of being Vegan, 1 whole year of  living in one place (for us that is huge, good thing we love our apartment) My first trip to NYC, 6 years of doing hair, I ended one band, and started another, spent a lot of time with good friends, and ended some relationships with bad friends, I also read 29 books. Wow, I am awesome!

I will set some new goals for my 29th year tomorrow! We have some really exciting things coming up, so now its time to learn some patience and enjoy the summer. I also stopped blogging for a bit. It’s always good to have a fresh start, so here I am at WordPress!

Birthday Party.

This last weekend was a Bff’s birthday. I was stoked that she didn’t decided to do karaoke or rollerskating, which have been her ideas the last couple of years. Yes, I hate karaoke, and yes, I hate rollerskating. Some would call me a fun-hater, that is fine with me. For her birthday this year, she decided to get a crew together and visit the Zoo. I cant say I was excited about this either. The Zoo is such a sad place! I would talk about how terrible humans are but that is not what this post is about. I try really hard not to come off as a pretentious vegan so I do my part as a friend. After all, we are going to Bamboo Garden for dinner, I cannot complain!
I decided to get out of my creative (or lack of) rut and make some presents.
I made a make-up bag and a drawstring bag, I thought would be a good travel bag for toiletries
since she visits her now fiancee Nate, who lives in AZ (who made a surprise visit to propose on her bday weekend!).
Also, made some pretty good chocolate cupcakes with vanilla lemon frosting!
I think this can go down in the books for being the best birthday a friend could have.

Last Sunday was my Mom’s Birthday! She has been through so much in the last 5 or so years and has shown me what being a strong, loving woman is all about. With 5 kids under her belt, she is the most supportive person I know, yes I mean that. She supports me in my bands, all my crazy hair colors, tattoos, jobs, moves and most importantly, my life decisions. I love her dearly.
For her birthday she asked if we (husband, brother, sister, brother-in-law) would come up and see her new place on Camano Island. We all live in the city so she usually comes out to see us. We all piled in my brothers car and prepared for the hour drive up north with cards, flowers, gifts and for something a little different then chocolate and vanilla I baked an Appleyest Spice Cake. This was one of the best things I have ever baked! we ate it all and My sister said “This is Vegan?!” I cant take credit for this one though, I followed a recipe out of the cookbook Get It Ripe . So. Awesome.

Appleyest Spice Cake
Preheat oven to 350 deg.  lightly oil a 9 inch cake pan and dust with flour.
Walnut streusel topping:
1/3 C chopped walnuts 1/3 C flour 1/4 C sugar 1 Tsp cinnamon 1/4 Tsp sea salt
2 Tsp earth balance
1 or 2 apples, peeled, cored and thinly sliced.
Lay down as many apple slices that will fit in the pan without overlapping.
in large bowl whisk together:
1 2/3 C flour 1/2 C sugar (I used 1/4 cup sugar) 1 Tsp baking powder 1 Tsp baking soda
1 tsp Cinnamon 1/2 Tsp sea salt.
3/4 Cup applesauce 1/2 Cup non-dairy milk (hemp, soy, almond, rice milk) 1/4 Cup oil (sunflower, coconut, canola oil) 2 Tsp apple cider vinegar.
Pour the batter over the apples and sprinkle with streusel topping.

Bake for about 30 min.  drizzle with syrup or malt and serve!
Sadly, I have no pics of this but I assure you, it is so good and easy to make!

Oh, Grace!

We rewatched Rear Window last night. From start to finish, this is a perfect movie! Jimmy Stewart is dreamy and Grace Kelly is amazing,
I cant get over how lovely she is. She is so inspiring!

Lazy Sunday.

It has been busy weekend! I’m nursing a cold while still recovering from the show that my band played in Portland on Friday night. We left town at 2:00 on Friday afternoon, I was showered and in bed by 3:00 on Saturday morning. It was fun but draining!
Aaron and I did a lot of lounging together yesterday and caught up on books and zines. I finally decided on a new book to read. I have been downloading samples onto my Kindle for like a week! It has never been so hard for me to choose a book! Last year I read 29 books, I couldn’t stop reading. I just started on my 3rd book of the year, kinda disappointed in myself! If I get a book, I have to finish it even if I don’t like it! so I sucked it up and the book is…..drum roll….

Wow, totally stressful already, I’m hooked!.
Any good book recommendations for the future?

Last night, Aaron took me to Neumos to see Rocky Votolato

we are both fans and try to go and support him when we can, he did a lot of the faves from the album ‘Makers’ and a bunch from his new album ‘True Devotion’ not to sure about that album yet. It was a great date night!

Today Aaron left to go to the Bicycle Expo and I’m stoked to hear about all the new things we are going to buy when we win the lotto, the list keeps getting bigger:)
I went to practice, grocery shopped and I’m making Split Pea soup. This is my fist time making it so I’m sure I will post about it if it turns out good!
My brother is over with a cold too, misery loves company!
I’m going to pop some meds, take a nap and then go to practice for my new band……Wow I guess this Sunday isn’t a lazy as I thought!
Hope your having a good weekend!

Chemical Junkie.

I cant keep a hair color for more then 6 months. Its a good thing I do hair, because I wouldn’t be able to support my addiction!
I went from Blond, to Brunette. My new hair color: Red!
